Weekend round-up - Amaya, Croft win in singles but lose in doubles

Cristina Amaya won the Women's Open division at the 2012 Christmas Classic in Arlington, Virginia on the weekend. She defeated Maria Jose Vargas in the final, 8-15, 15-8, 11-7.

In the semi-finals, Amaya beat Sheryl Lotts, 15-14, 15-5, and Vargas took out Susana Acosta, 15-7, 15-2.

Amaya and Vargas teamed up to play doubles in Arlington, but they didn't win the event, as young Americans Kelani Bailey and Samantha Simmons beat them in the final, 15-7, 15-8.

Bailey and Simmons defeated Da'Monique Davis and T. J. Baumbaugh in one semi-final, 15-12, 15-5, while Amaya and Vargas were winners over Candi Hostovich and Kristen Junkin in the other, 15-1, 15-10.

Croft wins Minot Open

Ben Croft won the Minot Open - a Tier 4 International Racquetball Tour (IRT) event in Minot, North Dakota on the weekend. He defeated Mitch Williams in the final, 10, 12, 11-5, 11-4, 11-1.

Croft advanced to the final with a semi-final win over Woody Clouse, 11-6, 11-3, 11-9, while Williams beat Lee Connell, 10-12, 11-5, 11-6, 15-13.

The Minot Open doubles event was won by Connell and Kurtis Cullen who defeated Croft and Steve Knowles in the final, 15-10, 12-15, 11-4.

In the semis, Connell and Cullen beat Andrew Allen and Brian Knowles, 15-11, 15-12, while Croft and Knowles defeated Williams and Mitch Kost, 15-3, 15-8.
