Moscoso & De La Rosa to face off twice Sunday at 43rd Annual Lewis Drug IRT Pro-Am

Conrrado Moscoso and Daniel De La Rosa, the #1 and #2 players, respectively on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) will play in both finals Sunday at the 43rd Annual Lewis Drug IRT Pro-Am in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, as they won their respective semi-final matches in both singles and doubles. Sunday’s singles final will be second consecutive final for both. Last month, De La Rosa defeated Moscoso at the Longhorn Open in Austin, Texas in what was a great final, so hopefully tomorrow’s will also be great.

They are separating themselves from the rest of the IRT field.

In the singles semi-finals, Moscoso defeated IRT #4 Eduardo Portillo, 15-10, 15-8, and De La Rosa beat #6 Jake Bredenbeck, 15-13, 15-8. In the doubles semis, De La Rosa and Javier Mar are the top seeds, and they defeated 4th seeds Bredenbeck and his brother Sam Bredenbeck, 15-11, 15-12. Moscoso and Alejandro Landa are the second seeds, and they were almost pushed to a tie-breaker by 3rd seeds Andrés Acuña and Portillo, 15-2, 15-14.

Acuña and Portillo led 13-10 late in game two, and looked liked they were going to force game three against Moscoso and Landa. But it was not to be, as Moscoso and Landa came back with four straight points to lead 14-13.

But their first match point was denied, as Landa was forced into skipping a shot from the front court. An Acuña backhand pinch shot from the front court got his side on game point at 14-14, but on the next rally, he tried to hit a cross court shot that only went into the middle of the court, where it hit Portillo. Side out.

Acuña partially redeemed himself with a forehand pinch shot winner to deny Moscoso and Landa their second match point. However, on the next rally Moscoso ended the match with a wide angle backhand winner that made it 15-14.
