Weekend round up: Wins for Parrilla & Carter

Jessica Parrilla won Women’s Open at the 32nd Annual Glass Court Swim & Fitness Turkey Shoot in Lombard, Illinois, on Sunday, as she defeated Naomi Ros in the final, 15-10, 15-10.

Both Parrilla and Ros needed tie-breakers to win their respective semi-final matches. Parrilla came back from a game down to defeat Valeria Centellas, 13-15, 15-10, 11-9, while Ros, the 5th seed, also dropped the first game of her semi before coming back to upset top seeded Carla Muñoz, 12-15, 15-8, 11-7.

Ros, the current USA Racquetball U18 Champion, got to the semis by upsetting 4th seed Sheryl Lotts, 15-10, 15-1, in the quarterfinals, while Parrilla beat Stephanie Synhorst, 15-12, 15-7.

Thomas Carter won Men’s Open in Lombard, as he defeated Jeremy Dixon, 15-4, 15-12. In the semi-finals, Carter, the top seed, beat 5th seed Benjamin Horner, 15-9, 15-9, and Dixon, the 3rd seed, upset 2nd seed Lee Meinerz, 15-12, 15-5.

Upcoming tournaments are Racquetball Canada’s National Team Selection Event this week in Brandon, Manitoba, then next week the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) will again be in action at the 32nd Annual Christmas Classic in Millersville, Maryland, December 6-8, and also the International Racquetball Federation (IRF) 2024 World Junior Championships will run from December 6-14 in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
