As on Tuesday, Wednesday held few surprises in the doubles competitions at the 20th International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala. The closest match on a day that had no tie-breakers was between Ecuador and Ireland in Women’s Doubles, as the Ecuador team of Maria Paz Muñoz and Ana Lucia Sarmiento defeated Ireland’s Katie Kenny and Antonia Neary, 15-10, 15-11.
Ecuador finished 2nd in Group C with Bolivians Angelica Barrios and Micaela Meneses taking 1st place in the group sealed with a win over Colombians Cristina Amaya and Maria Paz Riquelme, 15-7, 15-11, on Wednesday.
The Women’s Doubles match between Argentina’s Valeria Centellas and Natalia Mendez and Americans Rhonda Rajsich and Erika Manilla had the potential to be close, but in the end wasn’t very, as Argentina won 15-9, 15-6. The players did play close to each other, and Manilla probably isn’t on the Argentines Christmas card lists, as she and Centellas bumped each other on several occasions.
The doubles draws aren’t out yet, but we will have them for you here when they become available.
The live streaming has arrived in Guatemala, so the streaming of matches should begin sometime Thursday - the first day of the medal round. But check with the IRF website or their social media outlets (IRF on Facebook and @IRFRacquetball on Twitter) for updates.
