Montserrat Mejia and Paola Longoria will face off in the final of the 2023 Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) KWM Gutterman World Singles and Doubles Championships in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. It will be the first opportunity for Longoria to try to regain the #1 ranking that Mejia took from her after 11 consecutive seasons.
This will also be just their third match in the last 12 months, and the first in 2023. Longoria won in the first event of last season, and Mejia won last fall. They’ve yet to meet since then despite being the top two players for most of the past year.
Both won their respective semi-final matches in two straight games. Mejia beat LPRT #5 Brenda Laime, 15-6, 15-12, while Longoria defeated LPRT #3 Alexandra Herrera, 15-10, 15-14.
Neither Laime or Herrera were sharp in the first games of their respective semis, yet both looked like they would push their semi to a breaker only to fall short, as the LPRT #1 and #2 held off the challengers.
The final will be Sunday at 11:15 AM MDT, and you can watch it via the LPRT YouTube channel.
