Mercado upsets Herrera in Round of 16 at WRT Pleasanton Open

Mario Mercado, current World Junior U18 Champion, upset 5th seed Anthony Herrera, 15-6, 6-15, 11-4, in the Round of 16 at the World Racquetball Tour (WRT) Pleasanton Open in Pleasanton, California Friday. Mercado, the 12th seed, will play 4th seed David Horn, who’s Herrera’s doubles partner, in the quarterfinals Saturday, as Horn beat Felipe Muñoz, 15-7, 15-9, Friday.

One other upset in the 16s, as Francisco Troncoso won the 8/9 match against Alexi David Cocco Hayes, 6-15, 15-10, 11-7. Troncoso, the 9th seed, will play #1 seed Polo Gutierrez in the quarters. Gutierrez defeated Kenny Green Jr, 15-4, 15-1, in the 16s.

Both the quarterfinals and semi-finals are Saturday. The semis are at 5 PM and 6 PM PST with the final on Sunday at noon PST. You should be able to watch the action live on Saturday and Sunday via the WRT website.
