Doubles groups done at 2019 IRF World Junior Championships

The group stage doubles matches wrapped up Tuesday at the 2019 International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Junior Racquetball Championships in San José, Costa Rica. The results will be used to seed teams for the medal round that begins Wednesday.

In Boy’s U18, Mexicans Emir Martinez and Jose Ramos defeated Chileans Rafael Gatica and Johan Igor, 15-13, 11-15, 11-2, which meant that the three teams in Group A all had 1-1 records, as Guatemalans Jose Pablo Cardona and Nathan Martinez had beaten the Mexicans but lost to the Chileans. Using the tie-breaker rules, Guatemala came out on top (their win was 2-0 while the other teams' wins were 2-1) with Chile 2nd and Mexico 3rd. When has a Mexican team finished last in their group at World Juniors? That probably hasn’t happened recently.

Also in Boy’s U18, the Argentina team of Diego Garcia and Tomas Oyhanart needed a tie-breaker to beat Costa Ricans Pablo Freer and Tomas Sanchez, 8-15, 15-2, 11-8, and win Group C.

In Girl’s U18, Bolivians Angelica Barrios and Valeria Centellas won Group A, sealing it with a win Tuesday over Mexicans Marifer Gutierrez and Anna Rivera, 15-6, 15-6, and the USA team of Nikita Chauhan and Erin Slutzky won Group B by defeating Chileans Paula Mansilla and Josefina Toro, 15-12, 15-3.
