Monday doubles results from 2019 IRF World Junior Championships

In the doubles matches at the 2019 International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Junior Racquetball Championships in San José, Costa Rica on Monday, Chilean Johan Igor impressed, as he’s done in singles. Igor and partner Rafael Gatica defeated Jose Pablo Cardona and Nathan Martinez of Guatemala, 15-14, 2-15, 11-6, in Group A of Boy’s U18, and they can win the group with a victory over Mexicans Emir Martinez and Jose Ramos on Tuesday. In Chile’s favour the fact that the Guatemalans beat the Mexicans on Sunday.

Their Chilean team-mates in Boy’s U16 weren’t so fortunate, as Diego Gatica and Jaime Mansilla (Chile) lost to Josue Bermeo and Pablo Vera of Ecuador, 15-12, 7-15, 11-4, in one of the few matches to go tie-breaker on Monday.

But there were two tie-breakers in Girl’s U14 Monday. Mexicans Gisele Nieto and Angela Ortega came back from a game down to defeat Anna Aguilar and Andrea Reyes of Guatemala, 12-15, 15-7, 11-5, and Canadian twin sisters Ofelia Wilscam and Tamara Wilscam did the same against Ireland’s Sarah Ainsworth and Thea Coleman, 8-15, 15-14, 11-8.

The group stage ends Tuesday with the medal round beginning Wednesday. The finals will be Saturday. Results from the group stage will be used to seed players for the medal round.
