There were no upsets in the Round of 32 at the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) 22nd Lou Bradley Memorial tournament in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin on Thursday. But there were some close matches, and a couple of tie-breakers. For the second week in a row, Thomas Carter and Javier Estrada went breaker, but unlike last week in Sioux Falls, where Estrada won, yesterday Carter came out on top, 15-8, 4-15, 11-2. He’ll play 4th Alvaro Beltran in the Round of 16 Friday.
In the other tie-breaker, Javier Mar outlasted Sebastian Fernandez, 11-15, 15-11, 11-1, and will play IRT #1 Kane Waselenchuk in the 16s this morning.
Three other matches were also close despite being over in two games. Sebastian Franco beat Kadim Carrasco, 15-14, 15-13, and will play Jake Bredenbeck in the 16s. Mario Mercado defeated Alan Natera, 15-13, 15-12, to set up a showdown with last week’s finalist Eduardo Portillo. Finally, in what was also a repeat of a Sioux Falls match, Carlos Keller got the better of Felipe Camacho, 15-13, 15-12, after losing to Camacho last week. Keller will play Samuel Murray in the Round of 16.
Also of note, Eduardo Garay defeated Adam Manilla, 15-8, 15-8, which is notable, because Manilla was a semi-finalist at the Longhorn Open two weeks ago in Austin, Texas. However, he’s lost in the Round of 32 twice in a row since.
Look for the Lou Bradley action via the usual IRT media outlets: The IRT YouTube channel or the IRT Facebook page. The Round of 16 starts at 11 AM Friday. The quarterfinals will be Friday from 5 PM on with the semi-finals Saturday at Noon and 1 PM, and the final at 8 PM Saturday. All times Central.
