A Canadian will be in the final of the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) New York Open in Wantagh, New York on Sunday, as both Samuel Murray and Kane Waselenchuk won their respective quarterfinals Saturday morning, and will play each other in the semi-finals Saturday night for a spot in Sunday’s final. Waselenchuk made a statement by defeating IRT #2 Andree Parrilla, 15-0, 15-6. Parrilla had defeated Waselenchuk earlier this year, but didn’t come close doing so on Saturday.
Samuel Murray, the IRT’s #3 player, went to a tie-breaker with #6 Conrado Moscoso, winning 15-8, 4-15, 11-7. In the breaker, there wasn’t more than a one point difference until Murray pulled ahead from 5-5 to 7-5, and he held the lead from there on. Moscoso got it back to one point at 8-7 down, but Murray got the last three points to close out the win.
In the other quarterfinal matches IRT #1 Daniel De La Rosa needed a tie-breaker to defeat 8th seed Mario Mercado, 15-9, 9-15, 11-2, and 4th seed Alejandro Landa beat 12th seed Adam Manilla, 15-12, 15-6.
