2011 Pan Am Games - Elimination Round of 32

The elimination round draws have been made for men's and women's singles at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, and Mexican Samantha Salas's loss to Frédérique Lambert of Canada on Wednesday means that there cannot be two medals for Mexico in women's singles, as Salas is drawn to meet team-mate Paola Longoria in the quarter finals.

Lambert is drawn into the 3rd seed slot, behind American Rhonda Rajsich (2nd) and ahead of American Cheryl Gudinas (4th). Lambert's team-mate Jennifer Saunders is scheduled to face Angela Grisar of Chile in the Round of 16, but Grisar withdrew from a match earlier in the week and lost by walk over to Rajsich today, which might mean that Grisar is out of singles and Saunders will get a pass into the quarter finals against either Gudinas or Colombian Cristina Amaya.

Grisar did play her doubles match on Tuesday, so she's not completely out of the competition.

Mexico will be happier with the men's draw as the two Mexicans are on opposite sides of the draw: Alvaro Beltran in the top spot and Gilberto Mejia in the 3rd seed spot.

The USA and Canada won't be so happy as their players are on the same side of the draw with the two Americans on the top of the draw and the two Canadians on the bottom. However, it's slightly worse for the USA as Rocky Carson and Alex Ackermann will have to face off in the quarters while Mike Green and Vincent Gagnon will have to meet in the semi-finals - assuming all those players get that far.

Beltran and Carson are both on the top of the draw, so they will meet in the semi finals (if at all), not the final.
