The 2014 Canadian Junior National Racquetball Championships happened last week in Grande Prairie, Alberta. The Boy's and Girl's U18 champions repeated from 2013, as Coby Iwaasa won the Boy's title and Michele Morissette the Girl's title.
Iwaasa and Morissette also won their respective U18 doubles titles. Iwaasa won with Matthew Swaine and Morissette won with Danielle Drury.
The top two finishers in the singles divisions are named to the Canadian Junior National Team that will compete at Junior Worlds in Cali, Colombia in October. Six of the players on the 2014 team were on the 2013 team that competed in Sucre, Bolivia, including Iwaasa, Morissette and Drury.
Also back for another year are Alexis Iwaasa, Coby's cousin, Annie Fisher and Nicolas Bousquet.
The new team members are Trevor Webb, Graham Frattinger, Chris Culhane, Simon Comeau, Jewel Sauvé and Alexandra Murray.
Racquetball Canada's annual awards for sportsmanship went to Ryan Bateman, as the Sherman Greenfeld Award winner and Callie Hunter as the Heather Stupp Award winner.
Also, Evan Pritchard was named the Marc Caoette Award winner for his contributions to junior racquetball development in Canada.
Racquetball Canada's next major event will be the Canadian Championships in Brossard, Que. May 18-24, 2014.
