PARC XXVII Pan Am Championships - Day 3 Singles

The singles competition is complete at the XXVII Pan American Racquetball Championships in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. On the women's side there were a few matches of well known players Monday, but no real surprises in the outcomes, but a couple of upsets on the men's side.

American Rhonda Rajsich defeated Maria Paz Muñoz of Ecuador, 15-13, 15-7, but Rajsich's team-mate Janel Tisinger lost to Muñoz's team-mate Veronica Sotomayor, 15-4, 15-8. (note: seeding in the group stage are by country results in previous events, so it's common for players from two countries to be seeded in the same groups)

Also, Canadian Frédérique Lambert beat Chilean Carla Muñoz, 15-11, 12-15, 11-3.

In men's action, the top three seeds all won. Polo Gutierrez of Mexico, Vincent Gagnon of Canada and Jose Rojas of the USA all won in two straight games.

But American David Horn lost to Colombian Sebastian Franco in a tie-breaker, 12-15, 15-4, 11-9.

And shout out to the two Guatemalans who both won on Monday, although they both needed tie-breakers to do so. Edwin Garcia defeated Selvin Cruz of Honduras, 15-11, 12-15, 11-3, and Pedro Manolo Sandoval beat Miguel Flores of Honduras, 15-6, 12-15, 11-4.

Tuesday will be an off day, and then the elimination round that will begin Wednesday.

There will be live streaming of the elimination round semi-finals and finals on Friday and Saturday - April 18 and 19 - via the IRT Network.
