PARC XXVII Pan Am Championships - Men's singles quarterfinals

The top three seeds in men's singles all won in the quarterfinals of the XXVII Pan American Racquetball Championships in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, and the last spot in the semi-finals was taken by the player who perhaps should be the #1 seed, as Jose Rojas of the USA is the highest ranked International Racquetball Tour (IRT) player in the draw.

Despite Rojas's ranking, he was pushed to a tie-breaker by Luis Perez of the Dominican Republic, as Perez won the first game before succumbing in three to Rojas, 14-15, 15-3, 11-1.

Polo Gutierrez of Mexico is the top seed, and defending Pan American Champion, and he'll face Rojas in the semis on Friday, as he defeated American David Horn in the quarters, 15-5, 15-10.

On the bottom of the draw, Mexican Andree Parrilla's win over Bolivian Carlos Keller, 7-15, 15-11, 11-6, is perhaps surprising - although Parrilla was the 3rd seed and Keller the 6th - as Parrilla is the current Junior World Champion in U16 while Keller was the Junior World Champion in U18 in 2011.

Vincent Gagnon of Canada also needed a tie-breaker to win his quarterfinal match with Fernando Rios of Ecuador, winning 12-15, 15-8, 11-7.

Gagnon's the second seed and is trying to become the fifth man to win Pan American Championships in both singles and doubles. Already in that club are fellow Canadian Mike Green, Bolivan Ricardo Monroy, American Bill Sell and Gutierrez.

Gagnon won the 2007 Pan Am Championship in men's doubles with François Viens.

The semi-finals will be noon Friday and will be live via the IRT Network.
