2016 IRT Coast to Coast California Open Preview

The 2015-16 International Racquetball Tour (IRT) wraps up this weekend in Reseda, California with the Coast to Coast California Open. IRT #1 Kane Waselenchuk demonstrated that he’s back to full fitness last week in Portland, where he won the ProKennex Tournament of Champions less than two months after undergoing emergency hernia surgery.

The win likely assures that Waselenchuk will finish at the #1 IRT player for a record extending 11th season. Waselenchuk will be looking to close out the season with another win, and we wouldn’t bet against him getting it.

However, there will be several good matches aside from King Kane. It will start in the preliminary rounds on Thursday. The 16/17 seed match features two good young players: Andree Parrilla and Jose Diaz with the winner facing Waselenchuk in the Round of 16 on Friday.

Also, Charlie Pratt will likely face David Horn on Thursday with the winner taking on IRT #3 Daniel De La Rosa in the 16s. In the 16s, Sebastian Franco will likely qualify to face Jansen Allen, and Jake Bredenbeck is the likely opponent for Marco Rojas.

Finally of note in the draw is former top 5 player Chris Crowther who will have to defeat Matthew Majxner to get into the Round of 16, where he would face IRT #4 Alvaro Beltran.

The IRT Round of 16 will be streamed live Friday from 11 AM via the IRT Network with the quarterfinals Friday afternoon from 4 PM on. Also, the semi-finals will be 11 AM and Noon Saturday with the final Saturday night at 7:00 PM. All times Pacific.
