Saturday was not a good day for 2nd seeds at the USA Racquetball National Singles Championships in Tempe, Arizona, as both Jose Rojas and Sharon Jackson were upset in the semi-finals of Men's and Women's Singles, respectively. Rojas was beaten by 3rd seed David Horn, 9-15, 15-12, 11-6, and Jackson was beaten by 3rd seed Jacqueline Paraiso-Larsson, 3-15, 15-10, 11-3.
Paraiso-Larsson's win gives the 50 year old a chance at the US title, which she has yet to win in a remarkable career that has included World and USA Championships in Women's Doubles, as well as two US Open titles and the #1 spot on the women's pro tour.
But to add the USA Singles title to her record, she'll need to beat the 9 time US Champion, Rhonda Rajsich, who'll be going for her seventh title consecutive title on Sunday. Rajsich defeated Janel Tisinger in the other semi-final, 15-5, 13-15, 11-8.
In the men's final, Horn will play top seed and defending champion Rocky Carson, who'll be going for his seventh USA Singles title on Sunday. Carson needed a tie-breaker to defeat 5th seed Jose Diaz, 15-7, 11-15, 11-1, in the semis.
