Kane Waselenchuk completed an undefeated season Saturday, as International Racquetball Tour’s (IRT’s) #1 season defeated Rocky Carson, 11-8, 11-8, 11-2, in the final of the 2017 Florida Pro-Am in Sarasota, Florida. Waselenchuk not only won all of his matches this season, but he didn’t lose any game. None. Zero.
That’s an incredible feat.
Waselenchuk almost dropped games in the semi-finals to Jose Rojas, as he needed extra points to win both the first and third games, winning 12-10, 11-4, 12-10. In the first game, Rojas was up 10-4, and served for the game five times. Yet Waselenchuk denied him each time.
Four of those denials were the result of winning backhand service returns, including a great pinch shot that came as Rojas had hit a drive Z serve to the right side that Waselenchuk - a left-hander - hit before the ball reached the right side wall, hitting it into the right side wall so that it went low off the front wall for a winner.
This season Waselenchuk was extended to 12-10 on four occasions with Rojas doing it three of those times, and twice on Saturday. Andree Parrilla also lost a game 12-10 to Waselenchuk in March at the Shamrock Shootout in Lombard, Illinois.
Alvaro Beltran is the last player to take a game off of Waselenchuk, which happened in May 2016 at the Coast to Coast Open in Reseda, California.
In the other semi-final, Carson defeated Beltran, 1-11, 11-4, 11-2, 11-4.
