Group play wrapped up Monday at the 2023 Pan American Racquetball Championships in Guatemala City, Guatemala, setting the stage for the elimination round beginning Tuesday. There were a couple of tie-breakers Monday, as Colombian Maria Paz Riquelme came back from 2-1 down to defeat Costa Rica’s Jimena Gomez, 11-7, 10-12, 9-11, 11-8, 11-6, in one of them, and in the other Dominican Republic’s Merynanyelly Delgado eked out the victory over Canadian Juliette Parent, 9-11, 11-5, 13-11, 11-7, 11-9.
The top seeds in Women’s Singles are defending champion Angelica Barrios of Bolivia at #1, Natalia Mendez of Argentina #2, Gabriela Martinez of Guatemala #3, and Maria Jose Vargas of Argentina #4. But Paola Longoria - the current International Racquetball Federation World Champion is not to be overlooked as the 5th seed.
The Men’s top seeds are Carlos Keller of Bolivia at #1 with the USA’s Jake Bredenbeck #2, Keller’s team-mate Conrrado Moscoso at #3 and Thomas Carter - Bredenbeck’s team-mate - #4.
