2015 3WallBall World Championships - Preview

How can the best player in the world be the lowest seeded player in a draw? Well, if you’re Paola Longoria and you enter your first outdoor racquetball event, then you could get put at the bottom. That’s exactly what’s happened this weekend at the 3WallBall World Championships happen this weekend in Las Vegas, where Longoria is seeded 10th out of 10 players in the draw.

Some have wondered how the best indoor players would do playing outdoor. They’ll find out this weekend.

Janel Tisinger, who has won World Outdoor Racquetball (WOR) events in the past, is seeded #1, which is curious, as the WOR rankings have Rhonda Rajsich #1 in both the rolling 12 month and Season To Date listing. Rajsich is seeded 3rd in Las Vegas with Jessica Parrilla 2nd seed.

The Men’s seeding is similarly confusing. Rocky Carson is seeded 1st, and he’s #1 on the Season To Date rankings from the WOR website. Daniel De La Rosa is the 2nd seed, but he’s listed as 17th in the Rolling 12 Month rankings or 47th (0 points) in the Season To Date rankings, so why he’s 2nd seed ahead of Charlie Pratt - the highest player in the WOR rankings after Carson - is unclear. Pratt is seeded 3rd.

The doubles seedings are similarly confusing to us, but one curiosity is the pairing of Michelle Key and Longoria, as Key usually plays with Frédérique Lambert, who is in the Las Vegas draw. But Lambert is playing with Sofia Rascon.

Play begins on Thursday with the finals on Sunday.
