Daniel De La Rosa upset last year’s champion Rocky Carson, 15—4, 12-15, 11-4, to win the 3WallBall World Championships in Las Vegas Sunday. De La Rosa was the runner up last year, and this year went one better by knocking off Carson in the final. Last year's final also went to a tie-breaker. However, Carson did win the Men’s Pro Doubles with Jesus Ustarroz, as they defeated Mike Harmon and Chris Mcdonald, 15-14, 15-12, in the final.
On the women’s side, last year’s champion Janel Tisinger also fell to a challenger from Mexico, as Paola Longoria defeated Tisinger in three games, 15-11, 15-12, 11-6 [sic]. Tisinger and Longoria also faced off in the Women’s Pro Doubles final, and Longoria and Michelle Key came out on top by defeating Tisinger and Aimee Ruiz, 15-11, 15-10.
Longoria's win provides a positive answer to the question, would indoor racquetball players be good at outdoor racquetball? Yes, they are, as generally the higher players with better indoor records won in Las Vegas, but not entirely. De La Rosa doesn't have a winning record against Carson indoors (Carson holds a 9-4 record versus De La Rosa on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) indoors), but he won outdoors on Sunday.
Thus, the safe conclusion about indoor versus outdoor racquetball is that they are more similar than different.

2015 3WallBall World Championships - Semi-finals
Janel Tisinger and Rocky Carson - last year’s champions from the World Outdoor Racquetball (WOR) 3WallBall World Championships will have a chance to defend their titles on Sunday in Las Vegas after winning their respective semi-finals Saturday. Tisinger defeated Michelle Key, 15-5, 15-5 in one Women’s Pro semi-final and Carson beat Fred Ramierez,in the Men’s Pro semis, 15-9, 15-5.
Tisinger will face the #1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) - Paola Longoria - Sunday in the Women’s Pro final, as Longoria defeated Rhonda Rajsich in the semi-finals Saturday, 8-15, 15-6, 11-4.
Carson’s opponent will be Daniel De La Rosa, who was a winner against Charlie Pratt, 15-8, 15-6, in the semi-finals.
Both Tiisinger and Carson, as well as Longoria, could win both singles and doubles Sunday. 3WallBall World Championships - Day Two results
The 3WallBall World Championships continued Friday in Las Vegas. The defending champions both won their singles matches in the quarterfinals. Rocky Carson defeated Nick Montalbano, 15-3, 15-14, and Janel Tisinger beat Frédérique Lambert, 15-10, 15-4.
In the semi-finals on Saturday, Carson faces Fred Ramierez, and Tisinger will be up against the winner of the match between 4th seed Michelle Key and 5th seed Adrianna Moncada, which was still to be played on Friday night.
Play continues Saturday with the finals on Sunday.

3WallBall World Championships - Early results
The 3WallBall World Championships have begun in Las Vegas, and some matches have been done in the pro divisions. In a slight upset by the seedings, Nick Montalbano defeated Alejandro Landa, 15-8, 15-12, in the only match of the first round of Men’s Singles. Montalbano will play Rocky Carson in the quarterfinals on Friday.
But the other quarterfinal matches in Men’s Singles are complete. There were no surprises by the seedings, but 3rd seed Charlie Pratt beat 6th seed Alvaro Beltran, 15-10, 15-7, which is a significant win.
Pratt will play 2nd seed Daniel De La Rosa in the quarters on Saturday, as De La Rosa defeated 7th seed Andree Parrilla, 15-4, 15-10.
Fourth seed Fred Ramierez beat 5th seed Eric Fernandez, 15-11, 15-14, and awaits the winner of Carson-Montalbano in the semis.
In Women’s Singles, 3rd seed Rhonda Rajsich defeated 6th seed Cecilla Pratt, 15-5, 15-3. She’ll play one of 2nd seed Jessica Parrilla, 7th seed Sofia Rascon or 10th seed Paola Longoria. Rascon and Longoria play on Friday, with the winner playing Parrilla Saturday at 11 AM.
Yet the winner of that 11 AM match is scheduled to play Rajsich at Noon. That is, the quarterfinal winner will play Rajsich immediately after her quarterfinal match. That’s odd scheduling.
The odd seedings have been explained. World Outdoor Racquetball (WOR) seeds the defending champion of this event as #1 with the previous year runner up seeded #2. Thanks to Aimee Ruiz for pointing this out to us.

But the other quarterfinal matches in Men’s Singles are complete. There were no surprises by the seedings, but 3rd seed Charlie Pratt beat 6th seed Alvaro Beltran, 15-10, 15-7, which is a significant win.
Pratt will play 2nd seed Daniel De La Rosa in the quarters on Saturday, as De La Rosa defeated 7th seed Andree Parrilla, 15-4, 15-10.
Fourth seed Fred Ramierez beat 5th seed Eric Fernandez, 15-11, 15-14, and awaits the winner of Carson-Montalbano in the semis.
In Women’s Singles, 3rd seed Rhonda Rajsich defeated 6th seed Cecilla Pratt, 15-5, 15-3. She’ll play one of 2nd seed Jessica Parrilla, 7th seed Sofia Rascon or 10th seed Paola Longoria. Rascon and Longoria play on Friday, with the winner playing Parrilla Saturday at 11 AM.
Yet the winner of that 11 AM match is scheduled to play Rajsich at Noon. That is, the quarterfinal winner will play Rajsich immediately after her quarterfinal match. That’s odd scheduling.
The odd seedings have been explained. World Outdoor Racquetball (WOR) seeds the defending champion of this event as #1 with the previous year runner up seeded #2. Thanks to Aimee Ruiz for pointing this out to us.
Play continues Thursday with the semi-finals on Saturday and finals on Sunday.

How can the best player in the world be the lowest seeded player in a draw? Well, if you’re Paola Longoria and you enter your first outdoor racquetball event, then you could get put at the bottom. That’s exactly what’s happened this weekend at the 3WallBall World Championships happen this weekend in Las Vegas, where Longoria is seeded 10th out of 10 players in the draw.

Tisinger & Carson win 3 Wallball World Championships
Janel Tisinger defeated Jessica Parrilla, 15-10, 15-10, to win the final of the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) final at the 3 Wallball World Championships in Las Vegas, as Tisinger once again made the argument for being the best women's outdoor racquetball player.
In women's doubles, Michelle Key and Rhonda Rajsich beat Parrilla and Jackie Paraiso, 15-14, 12-15, 11-4. Earlier in the semi-finals, Key and Rajsich defeated Tisinger and Aimee Ruiz.
Rocky Carson continues to be the dominant outdoor men's racquetball player, winning Men's Singles by defeating Daniel De La Rosa, 12-15, 15-4, 15-2, and Men's Doubles with partner Alvaro Beltran by beating Greg Solis and Robert Sostre, 15-8, 10-15, 11-6.

2014 3 Wallball World Championships - Quarterfinals & Semi-finals
The 3 Wallball World Championships are happening in Las Vegas this weekend, and some notable racquetball competition is going on. The tournament is a Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) satellite event.
There was a big upset in that division, as Jessica Parrilla defeated Rhonda Rajsich, 15-12, 15-3, in the quarterfinals on Friday. Parrilla will play Michelle Key in the semi-finals Saturday, as Key beat Luisa Santillan, 15-3, 15-9, in the quarters.
On the top side, Janel Tisinger and Jackie Paraiso will face off in the semis after winning their respective quarterfinal matches. Tisinger beat Linda Tyler (neé Scales), 15-10, 15-8, and Paraiso defeated Cecilia Orozco, 15-9, 15-14.
In women's doubles, Paraiso and Parrilla have teamed up and they defeated Celeste & Mary Schoumaker, 15-11, 15-4, in one semi-final, while Key and Rajsich beat USA indoor champions Aimee Ruiz and Tisinger, 15-3, 15-8.
In the men's quarterfinals, top seed Rocky Carson defeated Roland Keller, 15-4, 15-0, and will play Charlie Pratt in the semis, as Pratt beat Greg Solis, 15-8, 15-12.
On the bottom of the draw, 2nd seed Alvaro Beltran defeated Daeyong Kwon, 15-7, 15-9, and Daniel De La Rosa beat Andree Parrilla, 15-12, 15-11, to set up an all Mexican semi-final.
Beltran and De La Rosa will also be facing off in doubles, as Beltran and Carson will play De La Rosa and Joe Young in one doubles semi-final. The other will be 3rd seeds Greg Solis and Robert Sostre versus either 2nd Brian Pineda and Chris Mcdonald or Brandon Davis and Jesus Ustarroz.

There was a big upset in that division, as Jessica Parrilla defeated Rhonda Rajsich, 15-12, 15-3, in the quarterfinals on Friday. Parrilla will play Michelle Key in the semi-finals Saturday, as Key beat Luisa Santillan, 15-3, 15-9, in the quarters.
On the top side, Janel Tisinger and Jackie Paraiso will face off in the semis after winning their respective quarterfinal matches. Tisinger beat Linda Tyler (neé Scales), 15-10, 15-8, and Paraiso defeated Cecilia Orozco, 15-9, 15-14.
In women's doubles, Paraiso and Parrilla have teamed up and they defeated Celeste & Mary Schoumaker, 15-11, 15-4, in one semi-final, while Key and Rajsich beat USA indoor champions Aimee Ruiz and Tisinger, 15-3, 15-8.
In the men's quarterfinals, top seed Rocky Carson defeated Roland Keller, 15-4, 15-0, and will play Charlie Pratt in the semis, as Pratt beat Greg Solis, 15-8, 15-12.
On the bottom of the draw, 2nd seed Alvaro Beltran defeated Daeyong Kwon, 15-7, 15-9, and Daniel De La Rosa beat Andree Parrilla, 15-12, 15-11, to set up an all Mexican semi-final.
Beltran and De La Rosa will also be facing off in doubles, as Beltran and Carson will play De La Rosa and Joe Young in one doubles semi-final. The other will be 3rd seeds Greg Solis and Robert Sostre versus either 2nd Brian Pineda and Chris Mcdonald or Brandon Davis and Jesus Ustarroz.
The competition is being live streamed from Las Vegas via the Ektelon TV network.

WOR Championships - Carson, Tisinger, Key & Key, Swain & Tucker win
The World Outdoor Racquetball (WOR) Championships happened in Huntington Beach, California on the weekend, and there were some surprising results. But it was no surprise that Rocky Carson won Men's Singles defeating Josh Tucker in the final, 15-8, 15-12.
Carson defeated Daniel De La Rosa in one semi-final, 15-7, 12-15, 11-7, while Tucker beat Charlie Pratt in the other, 15-14, 10-15, 11-7.
Janel Tisinger won Women's Singles, which also wasn't a surprise, as she's been an outdoor champion before. Nevertheless, Tisinger defeated another former WOR champion Rhonda Rajsich in the final, 15-13, 15-7.
In the semi-finals, Tisinger beat Sofia Rascon, 15-7, 15-4, and Rajsich beat Michelle Key, 12-15, 15-14, 11-3.
However, Key and her sister Danielle were one of the surprises in Huntington Beach, as they won Women's Doubles beating Rajsich and Martha McDonald in the final, 15-12, 15-14. They were the 5th seeds, and upset the #1 seeds Tisinger and Aimee Ruiz in the semi-finals, 15-3, 15-12.
In the other semi-final, 2nd seeds Rajsich and McDonald defeated Kris Kaskawal and Mary Schoumaker, 15-5, 15-2.
While Women's Doubles went to a young team in the Key sisters, Men's Doubles was won by veterans Tucker and Cliff Swain. Tucker and Swain, seeded 9th in the draw, defeated 6th seeds Craig Lane and Scott Davis in the final, 15-5, 15-0.
Tucker and Swain beat 5th seeds Carson and Jose Rojas in the semi-finals, 15-10, 15-8, with Lane and Davis defeating 10th seeds Ben Croft and Rod Frontino, 15-9, 15-14.
Tisinger and Greg Solis won the Mixed Open Doubles title defeating Ruiz and Rojas, 15-5, 15-3, in the final. In the semi-finals, Tisinger and Solis beat Key and De La Rosa, 10-15, 15-12, 11-2, and Ruiz and Rojas defeated Kaskawal and Gabriel Medina, 15-12, 11-15, 11-8.

World Outdoor Racquetball, Las Vegas - Results
A big World Outdoor Racquetball (WOR) tournament happened on the weekend in Las Vegas. Several indoor players were in attendance, and scooped up most of the hardware. Rocky Carson won the men's singles title in a squeaker against Alvaro Beltran. He took it 15-3, 14-15, 11-10.
In the semis, Carson defeated Chris Crowther, 15-3, 15-5, while Beltran had a walkover win against Jason Geis.
Beltran and Geis teamed on the doubles side and defeated Carson on the way to taking the title. They beat Carson and Son Nguyen, 15-5, 15-12 in one semi, while Crowther and Huczek beat Mike Green and Cliff Swain in the other, 15-13, 5-15, 11-10.
In the final, Beltran and Geis defeated Crowther and Huczek in two straight games, 15-13, 15-11.
Similar results on the women's side as the singles winner didn't also take the doubles title. Rhonda Rajsich won singles, defeating Jack Paraiso in the final by injury default. But in doubles Rajsich and Aimee Ruiz lost to Paola Longoria and Keely Franks, 15-6, 15-7.
There was also a Classic Pro Racquetball (CPRT) doubles event, which was won by Cliff Swain and Craig Lane. They defeated Robert Sostre and Fred Ramieez in the final, 7-15, 15-3, 11-10.

Carson & Paraiso double winners at WOR
Rocky Carson won his 3rd straight Racquetball Warehouse World Outdoor Racquetball Championship (WOR) title in Huntington Beach, California on Sunday with a convincing defeat of Alvaro Beltran in two straight games 15-1, 15-8. Carson also won the doubles title with partner Rob Hoff as they defeated Kevin Booth and Mike Peters in the final, 15-13, 15-11.
Jackie Paraiso was also a double winner outdoors as she defeated Rhonda Rajsich for the singles title, 15-12, 8-15, 11-5, and then teamed up with Aimee Ruiz to win the doubles title defeating Rajsich and Martha Mcdonald, 15-7, 12-15, 11-7.
Rajsich had the dubious distinction of losing three finals Sunday as she also lost the mixed doubles title with Craig Love to her women's doubles parter Martha Mcdonald and Chris Mcdonald, 3-15, 15-6, 11-3.
The Classic Pro Racquetball (CPRT) doubles division was won by Cliff Swain and Craig Lane, who defeated Dale Valentine and Richard Eisemann, 15-9, 15-2.

It's two days since the final of the 2010 Racquetball Warehouse World Outdoor Racquetball Championships (WOR) in Huntington Beach, California and we still can't tell you who won between Rocky Carson and Alvaro Beltran, although we can say that Jackie Paraiso defeated Rhonda Rajsich on the women's side. But please don't ask what the scores were.
This highlights one of the most frustrating things about racquetball tournaments: finding out what happened. The introduction of R2Sports.com on line tournament system was a great advance, but still there are tournaments that fail to update their event in a timely fashion or with complete score information. This is poor. Moreover, such failures reflect badly on the both the specific tournament and on racquetball in general.
We can't stress enough how important communication of events is. Making this communication happen is easier than it has been in the past, which only causes more frustration when it doesn't happen.
What should be done? The tournament director or tour commissioner should designate a person to be in charge of getting the results out. Someone who is detail-oriented should be given this task and the person should be available to get the results out as soon as they occur.
The purpose of The Racquetball Blog is to communicate racquetball information to the interested public, and we know that public exists. They are probably as frustrated as we are by these instances of non-reporting.
If you're not going to care about your event/sport enough to ensure that the results are communicated promptly to the public, how are you ever going convince anyone else to care?

WOR - Men's & Women's finalists set
Rocky Carson and Alvaro Beltran will meet in the final of the 2010 Racquetball Warehouse World Outdoor Racquetball Championships (WOR) in Huntington Beach, California on Sunday in what will be a repeat of last year's final, which Carson won in two straight games.
Carson had to play three matches Saturday, and reached the final with a win over Greg Solis (scores unknown) in the semi-finals. In the other semi, Beltran defeated Robert Sostre, 15-14, 15-12.
On the women's side, the top two seeds will also face off in the final as Jackie Paraiso, the #1 seed, defeated Angela Grisar, 15-14, 15-7 in one semi-final, and 2nd seed Rhonda Rajsich beat Janel Tisinger, 15-5, 15-1, in the other.
Rajsich won this event two years ago, when she beat Grisar in the final. Paraiso was runner up last year, losing the final to Paola Longoria.

WOR - Men's Round of 16 Results
The men are down the quarter-finals at the 2010 Racquetball Warehouse World Outdoor Racquetball Championships (WOR) in Huntington Beach, California, and most of the top seeds are through to the quarters. The exception is Mike Orr, the 7th seed, who lost his first match to Nick Montalbano, 15-12, 8-15, 11-3. Montalbano then defeated Jim Bronson, 15-7, 15-5, to go through to the quarters where he will face 2nd seed Alvaro Beltran, a 15-12, 15-10 winner over Brandon Davis in the Round of 16.

The women's 3rd and 4th seeds were upset Friday at the 2010 Racquetball Warehouse World Outdoor Racquetball Championships (WOR) in Huntington Beach, California. Angela Grisar, the 2008 winner of this event, took out the 3rd seed Michelle Poage in two straight games, 15-10, 15-10, and Janel Tisinger defeated 4th seed Keely Franks, 15-13, 14-15, 11-6.

WOR - Women's Round of 16 Results
The 2010 Racquetball Warehouse World Outdoor Racquetball Championships (WOR) began Wednesday in Huntington Beach, California and the top women's seeds won their first matches. Top seed Jackie Paraiso defeated Cathryn Mahoney, 15-3, 15-1, and second seed Rhonda Rajsich beat Courtney Chisholm (score unavailable).
The closest match of the day was between Angela Grisar and Jennifer Saunders, as it went tie-breaker with Grisar coming back from one game down to win 13-15, 15-9, 11-6. Outdoor experience may have played a role in the match, as Grisar won this event two years ago while Saunders is playing in her first outdoor event.
Next up for Grisar is Michelle Poage who defeated Veronica Sotomayor, 15-9, 15-9.

WOR's a comin' to Huntington Beach
The 2010 Racquetball Warehouse World Outdoor Racquetball Championships (WOR) begin Wednesday in Huntington Beach, California. With 326 players participating there are again more players participating this year than the year before, as there are over 40 more players than last year and almost 100 more than two years ago.
Last year's finalists are the top two seeds on the men's side, as Rocky Carson will try to defend his title with Alvaro Beltran as his chief competitor. Outdoor racquetball specialists Robert Sostre and Greg Solis are seeded 3rd and 4th, respectively.
Last year's women's winner, Paola Longoria, isn't in Huntington Beach this time, so Jackie Paraiso, runner up to Longoria last year, is the top seed with former champion Rhonda Rajsich seeded 2nd.
Of note on the women's side, Veronica Sotomayer is playing in her first competition since May 2009, as she took last year off of competition. She's up against Michelle Poage in the first round and playing doubles with Jennifer Saunders.
If Sotomayor and Saunders win their first match against Celeste Pafford and Mary Schoumaker they'll face Paraiso and Aimee Ruiz, who are seeded third as they were semi-finalists last year, losing to eventual winners Rajsich and Martha Mcdonald. Poage and Janel Tisinger were runners up last year and are seeded 2nd.

Carson repeats as World Outdoor Racquetball Champion; Longoria wins first title outdoors
In a repeat of last year's final, Rocky Carson successfully defended his World Outdoor Championship title Sunday by defeating Alvaro Beltran, 15-10, 15-12, to win the 2009 Racquetball Warehouse World Outdoor Racquetball Championships (WOR) in Huntington Beach, California.
Paola Longoria, who recently became the #1 women's player indoors, won the women's outdoor title by defeating Jackie Paraiso, a former #1 player indoors, 15--11, 14-15, 11-9.
Earlier in the day, Longoria defeated last year's runner-up Keely Franks in one semi-final, 15-13, 15-8, and Paraiso defeated Michelle Poage, 15-13, 10-15, 11-8.
Kevin Booth and Mike Peters were surprise winners in men's doubles, as they defeated Carson and Mark Koidin, 15-8, 15-12. Booth and Peters were seeded 6th, and took out heavy hitters Jason Mannino and Cliff Swain in the semi-finals, 15-10, 9-15, 11-9.
Carson and Koidin beat Josh Tucker and Son Nguyen, 9-15, 15-13, 11-9, in the other semi.
Rhonda Rajsich and Martha Mcdonald won the women's doubles title by defeating Janel Tisinger and Poage in the final, 15-5, 15-13. Rajsich and Mcdonald faced the indoor World Champions Paraiso and Aimee Ruiz, and beat them in three games, 15-14, 7-15, 11-6. World Outdoor Racquetball Championships - Poage in semi-finals
Michelle Poage is a surprise semi-finalist at the 2009 Racquetball Warehouse World Outdoor Racquetball Championships (WOR) in Huntington Beach, California, after defeating top seed and defending champion Angela Grisar in the quarter finals, 15-11, 15-9. Poage is ranked 31st on the Women's Professional Racquetball Organization (WPRO) tour, the more common indoor version of the game, and she hasn't been in a semi-final of a WPRO Tier 1 event.
Poage will face Jackie Paraiso, one of the greats of the game, Sunday in the semis, as Paraiso defeated Janel Tisinger in the quarters, 15-6, 15-5. Paraiso is a former #1 player indoors, and in contrast to Poage has played in at least 57 semi-finals on the women's pro tour.
On the other side of the draw, last year's runner-up Keely Franks is in the other semi after defeating Diane Moore, 15-9, 15-11. She'll face the current WPRO #1 Paola Longoria, who beat Kristen Bellows, 15-14, 15-9, in a rematch of the WPRO Pro Nationals final in May that Bellows won.
In men's play, second seed and runner up last year, Alvaro Beltran made it back to the final but needed two tie-breakers on Saturday to get there. He first defeated up and coming Jose Rojas, 7-15, 15-13, 11-6, in the quarter finals before taking out Ben Croft in the semis, 12-15, 15-7, 11-7.

World Outdoor Racquetball Championships - Down to QFs
They're down to the quarter finals at the 2009 Racquetball Warehouse World Outdoor Racquetball Championships (WOR) in Huntington Beach, California. There have been some upsets by the seedings, but last year's champions and runners up remain on course to reach the finals again.
On the women's side, Angela Grisar, the defending champion, easily won her first match against Christie Noller, 15-10, 15-0, as did second seed and last year's runner-up Keely Franks, who defeated Devon Pimentelli, 15-4, 15-6.
There were a couple of surprise vicories in women's play. Janel Tisinger defeated Aimee Ruiz, winner of the USA Racquetball indoor title in May, 15-7, 10-15, 11-6. Tisinger finished fourth at last season's world outdoor tournament. Also, Jackie Paraiso defeated Rhonda Rajsich, 7-15, 15-10, 11-5, in a battle of former #1 indoor players.
The big women's match up of the quarter finals will be a re-match of last season's Pro Nationals final match between Kristen Bellows and Paola Longoria, the new women's #1, that was won by Bellows.
Defending champ and top seed Rocky Carson has comfortably made it through to the quarter finals with wins over Michael Bernstein in the Round of 16, 15-9, 15-5, and Matthew Barserian in the 32s, 15-8, 15-12. Similarly, Alvaro Beltran, second seed, is also into the quarters with wins over Bradley Bowers, 15-8, 15-2, and Jose Diaz, 15-11, 15-8, in the 16s and 32s, respectively.
There have been upsets though. Robert Sostre defeated fourth seed Dillon Silver, 15-12, 15-6, in the Round of 32. But Sostre's good fortune was short lived, as he lost to Charles Pratt in the Round of 16, 15-14, 15-14. Pratt will play Scott Davis in the quarter finals.
Third seed Greg Solis only lasted one round more than Silver, as the 3rd seed lost to Ben Croft, 12-15, 15-4, 11-7, in the Round of 16. Croft, the 8th ranked player on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), will play Chris Crowther, the IRT's 9th ranked player, in the quarter finals.
Croft and Crowther's last match was in May at the IRT Pro Nationals in Chicago. A conflict developed between the players in that match which led to Croft being defaulted from the match. If they want to "take it outside" on Saturday, well, they'll already be there.

On the women's side, Angela Grisar, the defending champion, easily won her first match against Christie Noller, 15-10, 15-0, as did second seed and last year's runner-up Keely Franks, who defeated Devon Pimentelli, 15-4, 15-6.
There were a couple of surprise vicories in women's play. Janel Tisinger defeated Aimee Ruiz, winner of the USA Racquetball indoor title in May, 15-7, 10-15, 11-6. Tisinger finished fourth at last season's world outdoor tournament. Also, Jackie Paraiso defeated Rhonda Rajsich, 7-15, 15-10, 11-5, in a battle of former #1 indoor players.
The big women's match up of the quarter finals will be a re-match of last season's Pro Nationals final match between Kristen Bellows and Paola Longoria, the new women's #1, that was won by Bellows.
Defending champ and top seed Rocky Carson has comfortably made it through to the quarter finals with wins over Michael Bernstein in the Round of 16, 15-9, 15-5, and Matthew Barserian in the 32s, 15-8, 15-12. Similarly, Alvaro Beltran, second seed, is also into the quarters with wins over Bradley Bowers, 15-8, 15-2, and Jose Diaz, 15-11, 15-8, in the 16s and 32s, respectively.
There have been upsets though. Robert Sostre defeated fourth seed Dillon Silver, 15-12, 15-6, in the Round of 32. But Sostre's good fortune was short lived, as he lost to Charles Pratt in the Round of 16, 15-14, 15-14. Pratt will play Scott Davis in the quarter finals.
Third seed Greg Solis only lasted one round more than Silver, as the 3rd seed lost to Ben Croft, 12-15, 15-4, 11-7, in the Round of 16. Croft, the 8th ranked player on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), will play Chris Crowther, the IRT's 9th ranked player, in the quarter finals.
Croft and Crowther's last match was in May at the IRT Pro Nationals in Chicago. A conflict developed between the players in that match which led to Croft being defaulted from the match. If they want to "take it outside" on Saturday, well, they'll already be there.
