Horn wins singles, Cardona & Franco doubles at WRT 2017 Midwest Championships

David Horn won his 2nd World Racquetball Tour (WRT) event Sunday, when he defeated Mario Mercado by narrowest of margins, 15-14, 15-14, to win the Midwest Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This was Horn’s 7th appearance in a WRT final, and he won his first title in 2015 at the San Luis Open, beating Jake Bredenbeck in the final.

Horn and Bredenbeck teamed up together in Minneapolis, and were in the doubles final, but they lost to Alejandro Cardona and Gerardo Franco, 15-8, 15-8.

Horn’s win may move him ahead of Rodrigo Montoya in the WRT rankings. Horn came into the event ranked 3rd, and Montoya is 2nd (Cardona is the #1 WRT player), but Montoya didn’t play in Minneapolis, so that may have given Horn the opportunity to go past Montoya in the rankings.

The next WRT event will be May 5-7, when the WRT Georgia Open happens in Atlanta.
