WPRO - Texas Open QFs

Kristen Bellows's hopes to win two tournaments in row ended Saturday as Kerri Wachtel defeated her in the quarter finals of the Ektelon WPRO Texas Open in Dallas, 11-1, 6-11, 11-4, 11-8. This is the first event of the Women's Professional Racquetball Organization (WPRO) season, and Bellows won the last WPRO tournament of last season.

Wachtel will next play top seed Paola Longoria who defeated former #1 Jackie Paraiso, 11-2, 11-5, 11-3, in the quarter finals.

Earlier Rhonda Rajsich, the second seed, and Cheryl Gudinas, the third seed, won their respective quarter final matches. Rajsich had a much tougher time than Gudinas, as she needed five games to fend off a strong challenge from Angela Grisar, prevailing 9-11, 11-5, 13-11, 8-11, 11-6. It was a rematch of their match in the semi-finals of the World Games this summer, when Rajsich also came out on top in a tie-breaker.

Gudinas had a comparatively easy time winning her quarter final, as she beat Samantha Salas in three straight games, 11-3, 11-5, 11-1.

The semi finals will be played later on Saturday and the final on Sunday.
