The 22nd International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Junior Racquetball Championships are underway in Los Angeles, California and on Monday Irish made the most noise. After playing their Mexican opponents close in Boys U18 singles Joe Dillon and Sean Keane defeated Mexicans Pedro Gonzalez and Victor Garay, 15-10, 10-15, 11-6.
Earlier Keane had game point against Jaime Martell only to lose that game and the match 15-14, 15-11, while Dillon had a close fight with last year's silver medalist Alejandro Cardona, who won it 15-9, 15-13.
The rest of the World Cup matches went according to form. The tournament format has the World Cup players - the top 2 players from each country in the U14, U16, and U18 divisions - playing in groups or pools of 3 or 4 players for the first three days followed by a playoff based on the results of the pool play.
The pool play continues Tuesday at the Spectrum Club in Los Angeles, California. Play can be viewed over the internet via the IRF website.
