16th Annual Ghost of Georgetown Round of 16

Felipe Camacho upset 6th Ben Croft in the Round of 16 at the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) Ghost of Georgetown tournament in Overland Park, Kansas, as Croft retired in the middle of game four with the score, 7-0. Croft had surgery a few months ago, and was perhaps too ambitious in trying to get back to the IRT so soon after that. The final scores were 11-0, 2-11, 11-5, 7-0 - retired, in Camacho’s favor.

Camacho served mostly to Croft’s forehand, and did so successfully, which was an unusual tactic, as Croft is known for his great forehand shots. That he was unable to return serve well today was likely a combination of the recent surgery and the time off from racquetball training the recovery and rehabilitation from that surgery demanded.

Camacho will face another upset winner, as Bradly Rogers defeated 3rd seed Alvaro Beltran, 3-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8, in the 16s. Thus, either Camacho or Rogers will appear in their first career semi-final on Saturday.

IRT #1 Kane Waselenchuk had little trouble advancing to the quarters, as he defeated Brad Schopieray in three straight games, 11-0, 11-4, 11-5. Waselenchuk is face Jose Diaz, who was an upset winner over 8th seed Robert Collins, 11-6, 11-1, 11-6.

On the bottom of the draw, two USA National Team players from this year’s Pan American Games will face off in the quarters when 2nd seed Rocky Carson takes on 7th seed Jansen Allen. Carson beat Mario Mercado, 11-5, 11-4, 11-9, and Allen defeated Matthew Majxner, 11-1, 11-2, 11-4, in the Round of 16.

The quarterfinals begin at 5 PM CDT Friday with the semi-finals Saturday afternoon and final on Sunday at noon. You can follow the action via the IRT Network.
