Day 2 at 2024 Pan American Racquetball Championships

More good matches on day two of the XXXV Pan American Championships in Guatemala City, yet there haven’t really been any crazy surprises. Day three will bring the highest seeds of the groups playing each other, so that will ensure some great matches on Monday, and perhaps some surprises.

Perhaps the most surprising group is in Women’s Singles, as Group 2 will be won by either the 3rd or 4th seeded player, and that player will be 2nd seed in the medal round. Merynanyelly Delgado of the Dominican Republic and Canadian Danielle Ramsay will face off on Monday, as both won their matches Sunday. Delgado beat Andrea Reyes, 11-8, 11-8, 11-4, and Ramsay handed American Lexi York her second loss via a come from behind tie-breaker win, 8-11, 11-2, 3-11, 11-9, 11-7.

There were four other tie-breakers Sunday. In Men’s Singles, American Charlie Pratt held on to defeat Chilean Rafael Gatica, 12-10, 11-2, 7-11, 8-11, 11-6. In Mixed Doubles, Argentina’s Natalia Mendez and Gerson Miranda came back from a game down to defeat Canadians Coby Iwaasa and Juliette Parent, 9-11, 11-5, 11-5, 6-11, 11-7. And there were two tie-breakers in Women’s Doubles.

In one, Maria Cespedes and Delgado of the Dominican Republic held on to defeat Chileans Paula Mansilla and Carla Muñoz, 11-7, 10-12, 11-9, 6-11, 11-7, and in the other Guatemalans Anna Aguilar and Reyes denied Costa Ricans Larissa Faeth and Jimena Gomez, 11-5, 11-6, 5-11, 6-11, 11-6.

The last round of group play is on Monday followed by the medal round beginning Tuesday. The top two players in each singles group advance to the medal round with the other players going into an “Elite” consolation round. All teams in doubles advance to the medal round with the group stage results determining the seeding in that round.

For draws, look to the Pan American Racquetball Confederation (PARC) website or the R2 Sports site. Also, some of the matches are being streamed live, so check out the IRF Facebook page or the IRF YouTube channel for matches.
