Paola Longoria came back from a game down to defeat Montserrat Mejia, 8-15, 15-12, 11-8, to win the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) Boston Open in Marlborough, Massachusetts Sunday. The win moves Longoria up the LPRT rankings from #3 to #2, and drops Mejia from #1 to #3. Maria José Vargas becomes the new #1 player, and it’s the first time she’s been #1.
The win is Longoria’s second this season. Vargas, who Longoria beat in the semi-finals Saturday, has won the other three LPRT events.
Mejia had a 2nd chance to win Sunday, as she and Alexandra Herrera were in the doubles final against Vargas and Natalia Mendez. Herrera and Mejia won the first game, 15-8, but Mendez and Vargas came back to win the next two, 15-10, 11-4, and win the title. It’s their first title of the season, and the first time Herrera and Mejia failed to win the LPRT doubles event.
The next LPRT event will be the Battle at the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, April 25-28. If you missed any of the action from Massachusetts, check out the LPRT YouTube channel.
