World Racquetball Tour - 2013 Chile Open 32s

In the early results from the 2013 Chile Open World Racquetball Tour (WRT) event in Vina del Mar, Chile, there have been a few upsets. In the biggest one - by the WRT rankings - Fernando Rios, ranked 23rd, beat 10th ranked Francisco Troncoso, 15-12, 15-9, but the result isn't really a surprise as Rios was silver medalist at last year's Pan American Championships and got to the quarter-finals of the IRT Fullerton event last month.

Thus, Rios could win a few more matches in Vina del Mar. His next opponent will be against 7th seed Felipe Camacho, who beat 26th seed Diego Silva, 15-4, 15-5.

While the Rios-Camacho match should be good, the highlight of the 16s will likely be 6th Gilberto Mejia versus 11th seed David Horn, as it pits a Mexican veteran in Mejia, who's played for the Mexican National Team several times, against Horn, who's one of the up and coming young American players from Stockton, California.

In the 32s, Mejia beat Cristobal Accorsi, 15-5, 15-1, while Horn defeated Rogelio Medina, 15-3, 15-5.

In other action, 17th seed Pablo Kurzbard defeated 16th seed Jose Daniel Alvarez, 15-7, 15-11, and will face top seed Alejandro Landa later on Thursday.

The 3rd and 4th seeds have also won their first matches. Third seed Polo Gutierrez beat Mauricio Borquez, 15-2, 15-0, and 4th seed Sebastian Franco defeated Antonio Garete, 15-0, 15-12.

The Round of 32 continues in Chile, and the Round of 16 will be played later on Thursday with the quarter-finals and semi-finals on Friday and final on Saturday.

Matches can be viewed via the WRT website from Friday morning through the finals on Saturday afternoon.
