LPRT 2014 Great Balls of Fire - Longoria & Vargas advance to final

Paola Longoria - the #1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) - will have a chance to continue her tournament winning streak that dates back to May 2011, as she defeated Samantha Salas Solia in the semi-finals of the Great Balls of Fire Pro-Am in Miami, Florida, 11-1, 8-11, 11-5, 11-2.

Third seed Maria Jose Vargas will try to end Longoria's streak Sunday, as she beat 2nd seed Rhonda Rajsich in the other semi, 11-9, 11-9, 11-4.

Longoria started strong Saturday with her typical drive serving and sharp shooting style. She was helped by loose shots in game one from Salas Solis, whose shots often came into the middle rather than deep to the back corners.

In game two, they were back and forth until an 8-8 tie after which Salas Solis closed out the game to level the match at one game each.

Salas Solis carried some of that momentum over into game three, as she took a 4-2 lead. However, Longoria called a timeout, won the serve back, tied the game and held her opponent to only one more point, as she went on to win it 11-5.

Longoria again dominated play game four, as she closed out the match.

Sunday's final will be the fifth meeting between Longoria and Vargas. The first three were straight game victories for Longoria in semi-finals, but in the last meeting Vargas took a game off Longoria in the final of the Winter Classic in Overland Park, Kansas, where Vargas won the first game before Longoria won in four.

Vargas will be looking to do better Sunday while Longoria seeks to extend her winning streak.

The 15th Annual Great Balls of Fire Pro-Am final will be live on the LPRT Network beginning at noon EDT Sunday.
