Weekend Round Up - Mercado, Herrera & Murray and Amaya win

Mario Mercado won Men’s Open at the 2017 Florida Pro-Am in Sarasota, Florida on the weekend. Mercado defeated Alejandro Herrera in the final, 15-12, 15-5. In the semi-finals, Mercado beat Andrés Gómez, 15-3, 15-0, and Herrera defeated Felipe Camacho, 15-4, 15-5.

But Herrera did win the Men’s Open Doubles title partnering with Samuel Murray. They won a tie-breaker against Mercado and Mike Harmon, 7-15, 15-8, 11-7. In the semis, Herrera and Murray were winners over Wesley Miller and Andres Ramirez, 15-1, 15-8, while Mercado and Harmon beat Camacho and Sebastian Franco, 15-1, 15-5.

They also had a Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) exhibition division in Sarasota, which featured four players. Cristina Amaya won the division by defeating Jordan Cooperrider, 15-14, 15-6, in the final. In the semi-finals, Amaya beat Maritza Franco, 15-5, 15-9, and Cooperrider defeated Regina Franco, 15-11, 15-10.

This weekend the LPRT will be in action in Guadalajara, Mexico, May 5-7, and the World Racquetball Tour will be in action with the Georgia Open, May 5-7 in Lilburn, Georgia.
