Bolivia & Mexico take gold in team events at 2025 Pan American Racquetball Championships

Bolivia and Mexico won the Men’s and Women’s Team competitions, respectively, Saturday at the XXXVI Pan American Championships in Guatemala City. The Bolivians defeated the USA in two straight matches, while the Mexicans needed three matches to see off Argentina.

In the men’s final, Carlos Keller of Bolivia beat American Thomas Carter, 11-9, 11-7, 11-4, and Conrrado Moscoso defeated Jake Bredenbeck, 13-11, 11-4, 11-9, so they didn’t have to play the doubles match.

In the women’s final, Argentina’s Valeria Centellas got them a lead by defeating Mexican Alexandra Herrera, 11-9, 12-10, 3-11, 11-8, but Montserrat Mejia (Mexico) levelled the final at 1-1 by beating Natalia Mendez (Argentina), 11-7, 11-2, 11-9. That meant the gold medal would come down to doubles with Herrera and Samantha Salas taking on Centellas and Mendez.

The Mexicans won the first two games, and it looked like it would be a sweep. However, Argentina fought back and won games three and four to force a fifth game tie-breaker.

Argentina got the first two points of the breaker, but Mexico responded with seven straight points to go up 7-2. They held on to win it, making the final score 11-8, 11-9, 7-11, 2-11, 11-5.

This is the third time the team competition has happened at Pan Am Championships. Bolivia’s win is their second team title with the first coming in 2022. Mexico’s win is its first, as Argentina won the last two women’s team titles.
