Only one American has reached the semi-finals of the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) division at the Ektelon Nationals in Fullerton, California, and that's Rocky Carson, the #2 IRT player, who defeated Shane Vanderson in the quarter finals, 11-5, 11-3, 11-7.
Carson will play sixth seed Alvaro Beltran of Mexico, who upset third seed Jose Rojas in the quarters, 13-11, 11-0, 11-2.
There was an upset on the top side of the draw as well, as Mexican Polo Gutierrez, who came through qualifying, defeated Chris Crowther the fifth ranked IRT player, 4-11, 11-2, 11-6, 11-5.
Gutierrez will next face the IRT's #1 player Kane Waselenchuk, as Waselenchuk beat Tony Carson, 11-2, 11-2, 11-6. Waselenchuk's a Canadian, but resides in Austin, Texas.
Play continues in Fullerton through Sunday, and the IRT Network is live streaming the semi-finals Saturday and final on Sunday.
