Crowther wins Costa Rica IRT event
Last weekend, Chris Crowther won the Costa Rica Open - a Tier 2 event on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT). He defeated Alejandro Landa, 1-11, 11-4, 11-3, 11-7, in the final.
Crowther beat Alejandro Herrera in the semi-finals, 11-1, 12-10, 11-1, while Landa upset Andy Hawthorne, who was making a return to active competition following an appendix operation, 11-4, 11-8, 13-11. Hawthorne may have also been tired from his quarter final match, as he needed five games against Fernando Rios, winning 11-3, 11-7, 3-11, 2-11, 11-9.
Crowther and Landa teamed up to take the doubles title, as they defeated the home side of Bruno Casalvolone and Joaquin Solera in the final, 15-7, 15-8. Crowther and Landa beat Rios and Ivan Villegas in the semi-finals, 15-5, 15-4, while Casalvolone and Solera, the 7th seeds, got there with two upsets.
First, they defeated Hawthorne and Alejandro Herrera in the quarter finals, 15-13, 15-10, and then Casalvolone and Solera beat Felipe Camacho and Teobaldo Fumero A. in the semi-finals, 15-12, 15-9.
