Mexico and the USA will face off for gold in both men's and women's doubles finals at the 2013 Pan American Championships in Cali, Colombia, as the two country's teams won their respective semi-final matches on Friday.
Mexicans Javier Moreno and Polo Gutierrez beat Colombians Sebastian Franco and Juan Herrera, 15-6, 15-9 in one semi-final while Americans Jansen Allen and Marco Rojas defeated Felipe Camacho Martin and Joaquin Solera of Costa Rica, 15-10, 15-11, in the other semi.
In the women's semi-finals, Mexicans Paola Longoria and Samantha Salas defeated Chileans Angela Grisar and Carla Muñoz, 15-13, 15-1, while Americans Sharon Jackson and Rhonda Rajsich beat Bolivians Jenny Daza and Adriana Riveros, 15-9, 15-6.
Thus, it will be Mexico v. USA for gold Saturday, and lately, Mexico has ruled the day. But the teams are different. On the men's side, Rojas and Allen haven't played together at this level and the left-hander Moreno usually plays with Alvaro Beltran.
The American women's team is new also, as Jackson - like Rojas - is an international rookie. She's played well, but Jackson and Rajsich are facing the reigning two time Pan Am Champions in Longoria and Salas, who haven't lost together since they won the 2011 Pan Am Championships.
The International Racquetball Federation (IRF) is streaming matches live from Cali via its website.
