Paola Longoria and Polo Gutierrez won gold in women's and men's singles, respectively, at the 2013 Pan American Championships in Cali, Colombia on Saturday. Longoria won for the 5th time and second consecutive time, as she defeated American Rhonda Rajsich in the final, 15-5, 15-6. Longoria previously won Pan Am Championship gold in 2006, 2008, 2010, as well as 2012.
Gutierrez defeated American Marco Rojas, 15-10, 15-3, in the men's final to become the third Mexican man to win gold at the Pan Am Championships. Alvero Beltran won gold in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and Daniel De La Rosa did so in 2011.
Gutierrez and Rojas were close in the first game, as they were tied at 7-7 and 9-9. Then Gutierrez pulled ahead to 13-9, and held off Rojas to win game one.
Game two wasn't close, as Gutierrez went out to a 7-0 lead and cruised from there to take the match in two straight games.
