Some close games in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico, but no surprises, as the higher seeded players won their matches. Top seeds, and defending gold medalists, Mexicans Paola Longoria and Alvaro Beltran both won their matches in Women's and Men's Singles, respectively.
Longoria defeated Ishlhey Paredes of Venezuela, 15-0, 15-4, and Beltran beat Luis Perez of the Dominican Republic, 15-7, 15-14, in the quarterfinals. Longoria will play Ana Gabriela Martinez of Guatemala in the semi-finals on Thursday, as Martinez beat Maria Gomez of Colombia, 15-6, 15-6, while Beltran's opponent will be Costa Rican Felipe Camacho, a winner over Francisco Gomez of Colombia, 15-3, 15-1.
The other semi-finals will be Mexico-Colombia showdowns, and both should be very competitive. Samantha Salas of Mexico will play Colombian Cristina Amaya in Women's Singles, and Daniel De La Rosa of Mexico will play Alejandro Herrera of Colombia. Salas and Amaya are the 4th and 6th ranked players on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT), while De La Rosa is 5th ranked on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) and Herrera is a veteran player, who is half of the team that won the Men's Doubles World Championship this year.
