Green & Saunders win 1st Racquetball Canada National Team Selection Event of season

Mike Green and Jennifer Saunders - the top seeds - won the Men's and Women's finals, respectively, of the Racquetball Canada National Team Selection Event at the YMCA in Kitchener, Ontario, and got the first advantage in qualifying for the racquetball team that will play at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto next July.

Green defeated Vincent Gagnon in the Men's final, 15-13, 15-1. But it looked like it might be the other way early in game one, as Gagnon jumped out to a 6-0 lead. But Green fought back, tied the game at 6-6. They were also tied at 11-11 before Green finished it off. In game two, Green jumped out to the 6-0 lead, and Gagnon didn't have a response.

Coby Iwaasa won the 3rd place match against Tim Landeryou, 15-11, 15-9.

Saunders beat Christine Richardson, 15-9, 15-4, in the Women's final. Michèle Morissette defeated Valerie Fallu, 15-4, 15-13, in the 3rd place match.

There are three qualifying events for Canada's racquetball players to make the National Team that will represent Canada at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto next July. The next one will be in Brossard, Que. January 30-February 1, 2015. The third and last chance will be the Canadian National Championships in Burnaby, B.C. May 17-23, 2015.
