Weekend round up - Horn wins in Wyoming & LPRT Rankings

There’s a bit of a lull in the racquetball schedule coming off the US Open in Minneapolis. However, there was a Tier 4 International Racquetball Tour (IRT) event in Gillette, Wyoming on the weekend, which was won by David Horn, who defeated Jansen Allen in the final, 12-10, 4-11, 12-10, 11-8.

In the semi-finals, Horn beat Nicholas Riffel, 11-1, 11-8, 11-3, and Allen defeated Aaron Booker, 11-0, 11-4, 11-4.

LPRT Rankings

The Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) updated its rankings after the US Open. Samantha Salas, who reached the US Open finals this year for the first time in her career, is back in the top five, as her good performance in Minneapolis has raised her up to 5th in the rankings.

US Open champion Paola Longoria remains the LPRT #1 player. Frédérique Lambert’s good start to the season has her at #2, with Rhonda Rajsich #3 and Jessica Parrilla #4.

Salas’s rise has been at the expense of Alexandra Herrera, who’s now 6th, and Maria Jose Vargas, 7th, and hasn’t played this season. It seems Vargas, who got married earlier this year, does not have plans to play racquetball in the near future, although that’s only a rumour.

Rounding out the top 10 are Cristina Amaya at #8, Susy Acosta #9, and Carla Muñoz at #10. Notable in the next 10 is Guatemalan teen sensation Gabriella Martinez who cracks the top 20 for the first time at #20. Thus, this is the first time there have been two Guatemala players in the top 20 of women’s pro racquetball, as Martinez’s countrywoman - and often doubles partner - Maria Renee Rodriguez is #15.
