2016 IRF World Junior Championships - Day 3 results

Erika Manilla of the USA completed an undefeated group stage of play Tuesday at the 28th International Racquetball Federation (IRF) World Junior Racquetball Championships in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, as she defeated Flavia Meneses of Bolivia, 15-4, 15-5. Meneses was the #1 seed in Girl’s U18, and Manilla will claim that spot with the win, putting her on top of the draw for the elimination round that will begin on Wednesday.

In the other Girl’s U18 group, Mexican Erin Rivera beat Melania Sauma of Costa Rica, 15-7, 15-8, to claim the 2nd seed spot for the elimination round, and Jordan Cooperrider of the USA needed a tie-breaker to defeat Andrea Martinez of Guatemala, 15-5, 13-15, 11-2.

In Boy’s U18, Cristian Longoria of Mexico claimed the #1 seed, as he got an injury win against Costa Rican Jose Ubilla Tuesday. Longoria was ahead 12-1 in game one when Ubilla had to default due to injury. In a surprise result, Korean Gun Hee Lee beat Bolivian Noe Rivera, 15-9, 15-13, in the other Group A match.

We thought there might be tie-breakers needed in the other Boy’s U18 groups to determine the group winners, but that turned out not to be necessary. Christian Chavez of Ecuador defeated Trevor Webb of Canada, 15-9, 15-9, to win Group B. Bolivian Cristhian Miña beat Colombian Set Cubillos (Colombia), 15-12, 15-5, to take Group C, and American Wayne Antone won Group D with a win over Julian Cruz of Guatemala, 15-3, 15-0.
