2016 LPRT Paola Longoria Invitational - Preview

The Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) will be in Monterrey, Mexico for the 2016 Paola Longoria Invitational for its second event in as many weeks, as they played in Boston last weekend. Casting a shadow over the event will be the death of Dennis Rajsich, the father of the LPRT’s #3 player Rhonda Rajsich, which happened on Monday.

The Racquetball Blog extends its sympathy to Rhonda and her family at this difficult time.

Thus, Rajsich will be missing from this weekend’s event, but 8 of the top 10 LPRT players will be there, including LPRT #1 Paola Longoria, who won both singles and doubles on Sunday in Boston. She defeated LPRT #2 Frédérique Lambert in both finals, winning the doubles final with Rajsich, as Longoria’s usual doubles partner - Samantha Salas - was not in Boston.

Lambert played with doubles with LPRT #4, Jessica Parrilla, and they have teamed up again for this weekend’s event, while Longoria will play with Salas, who will be in Monterrey. Salas was runner up at the US Open last month, and it will be interesting to see how she does in Monterrey after having a few weeks off. She’s seeded 5th, so she could meet Longoria in the semi-finals, although to make that happen she’ll likely have to defeat LPRT #4 Alexandra Herrera, as well as 12th seed Carolina Rivera.

Lambert and Parrilla could meet in the other semi-final, although Parrilla will likely have to beat Natalia Mendez in her first match, and Mendez was a US Open quarterfinalist last month. Moreover, Parrilla will likely play 6th seed Cristina Amaya in the quarterfinals, and Amaya is coming off her first semi-final appearance last week since she had foot surgery earlier this year.

Thus, there should be many great matches this weekend in Monterrey.

You can watch this weekend’s action live via the LPRT LiveStream channel. The Round of 16 begins at 3 PM on Friday, with the quarterfinals on Saturday at 10 and 11 AM and the semi-finals at 4 and 5 PM. The singles final will be 2 PM Sunday with the doubles final to follow. All times central.
