2017 IRT Raising Some Racquet For Kids - Preview

Rocky Carson is top seed at this weekend’s International Racquetball Tour (IRT) Raising Some Racquet for Kids tournament in Dayton, Ohio, as IRT #1 Kane Waselenchuk withdrew for health reasons. Word is Waselenchuk has the flu.

This presents a grand opportunity for everyone to get in the winner’s circle. Carson has been the one in recent years has most often taken advantage of these opportunities. He’s won at least one event in six straight seasons, and 9 of the past 10, although Carson has not reached the winner’s circle this season.

Daniel De La Rosa, the IRT’s #3 player and the 2nd seed this weekend, has won this season, doing so at the Lewis Drug Pro-Am in Sioux Falls, South Dakota in January. Alvaro Beltran and Jose Rojas have also won on tour, but Beltran’s last win was last season and Rojas’s was in the 2013-14 season. Both would surely love to add another title to their records.

But there are others who could surprise. Andree Parrilla got to the final last weekend, beating De La Rosa and Carson in the process, before falling to Waselenchuk. Also, Marco Rojas, Jose’s younger brother, also looked strong last weekend in a quarterfinal loss to Waselenchuk. They would be your dark horses in Dayton this weekend.

The IRT Network will be broadcasting from Dayton beginning with the Round of 16 at 10 AM Friday morning with the quarterfinals on Friday evening from 4-7 PM. Note: the semi-finals will be Saturday at 11 AM and noon with the final to follow at 7 PM.
