2018 IRT Los Angeles Open - Round of 16

Both top seeds Rocky Carson and Kane Waselenchuk advanced to the quarterfinals in two straight games at the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) 2018 Los Angeles Open in Canoga Park, California. Carson, the #1 IRT player, defeated Jake Bredenbeck, 15-2, 15-12, and IRT #2 Waselenchuk beat Jose Diaz, 15-5, 15-2. Bredenbeck was up on Carson in game two with leads of 5-0 and 12-10, but the veteran Carson came back to finish off the match in two straight games.

Both the 3rd and 4th seeds needed breakers to win their Round of 16 matches. Third seed Alvaro Beltran defeated Adam Manilla, 15-9, 12-15, 11-7, and 4th seeds Daniel De La Rosa came back from a game down and 12-4 down in game two to overcome Charlie Pratt, 4-15, 15-13, 11-7. The loss means Pratt won’t win back to back IRT events, as he was the winner of the last IRT event of 2017: the Tournament of Champions in Portland, Oregon.

Sebastian Franco had the only upset victory in the 16s, as he won a breaker against 8th seed Samuel Murray, 13-15, 15-9, 11-7. Franco will play Carson in the quarterfinals later today.

The quarterfinals will be Friday evening from 6 and 7 PM. Go to the IRT Network, or the IRT Facebook page, for the action. The semi-finals will be Saturday afternoon at 2 and 3 PM with the doubles semis at 5 PM Saturday. The singles final will be Sunday at 11 AM followed by the doubles final at noon. All times Pacific.
