Round of 32 and 16 at the 2018 WRT Longhorn Open

The top seeds have taken care of business at the first World Racquetball Tour (WRT) event of 2018: the Longhorn Open in Austin, Texas. Top seed David Horn won both his matches on Friday in straight games, as did 2nd seed Rodrigo Montoya. Horn will play Christina Longoria in the quarterfinals, while Montoya plays Javier Mar.

Horn beat John Rhodes, 15-2, 15-4, in the Round of 32, and Victor Camacho in the Round of 16, 15-3, 15-4. We thought Montoya might have some difficulty in his matches in the 32s and 16s, but judging from the scores, he had little difficulty, as he defeated Taylor Knoth, 15-5, 15-9, in the Round of 32, and then beat Edson Martinez, 15-0, 15-4, in the Round of 16.

Mar is one of two upset winners in the quarterfinals, as 10th seeded Mar defeated 7th seed Jaime Martell in two close games, 15-13, 15-14, in the 16s. Eduardo Garay caused the other upset, but needed a tie-breaker to do it, as he beat 6th seed Gerardo Franco, 15-8, 11-15, 11-9. Garay will play 3rd seed Andree Parrilla in the quarters.

You can watch the action from Austin via the WRT website or its Facebook page. The quarterfinals will be Saturday afternoon with the and semi-finals Saturday night at 7:50 PM and 8:45 PM, and the final will be Sunday at 11:40 AM.
