The Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) goes to Georgia this weekend for the Peachtree Open in Lilburn. There are 25 players in the draw, but not LPRT #1 Paola Longoria or #6 Samantha Salas or #7 Nancy Enriquez. The absence of Longoria et al. means opportunity is knocking for other top 10 players - or players outside the top 10 judging by what’s happened on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) recently - who have made the trip to Georgia.
Jessica Parrilla is the top seed for the first time in her career, which sounds like a great thing, right? However, she could play former LPRT #2 Maria Vargas in her first match. They’ll meet in the Round of 16, if Vargas, seeded 16th, wins her Round of 32 match against 17th seed Brenda Laime.
Veteran Rhonda Rajsich is seeded 2nd with Frédérique Lambert 3rd and Alexandra Herrera 4th. Lambert has seemed to be Longoria’s biggest rival the last couple of years, and did win the last event that Longoria was absent from. Coincidentally, that win came in Lilburn in August 2016, when Lambert beat Herrera in the final. Can Lambert win her 2nd LPRT event where she won her 1st?
The tournament starts Friday morning with the Round of 32. The Round of 16 will be Friday afternoon. The quarterfinals will be Saturday morning (10 AM & 11 AM) and semi-finals Saturday at 4 PM and 5 PM. The singles final will be Sunday at 11 AM. All times Eastern.
