Vargas into semi-finals for 1st time in two years at 2018 LPRT Peachtree Open

Maria Vargas has reached the semi-finals at the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) Peachtree Open in Lilburn, Georgia, as she defeated 8th seed Adriana Riveros, 11-1, 5-11, 11-4, 11-9, in the quarterfinals Saturday morning. It’s the first semi-final appearance for the former #2 player in almost two years, so it's her best result in her third LPRT tournament after taking time off to start a family.

Vargas will play 4th seed Alexandra Herrera in the semi-finals, as Herrera won a close match with 21st seed Lucia Gonzalez, 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-4.

The other semi will be between the #2 and #3 seeds: Rhonda Rajsich and Frédérique Lambert, respectively. In the quarters, Rajsich came back from a game down to win in five games against 7th seed Carla Muñoz, 5-11, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8, 11-5, while Lambert played a close match with 6th seed Cristina Amaya, winning 11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 12-10.

The quarters were very competitive with all the matches going at least four games, and almost half of the games (8 of 17) were decided by three points or fewer.

The semi-finals will be Saturday afternoon at 4 PM and 5 PM, and the final will be Sunday at 11 AM. All times Eastern. Check out the LPRT YouTube channel for the action or its LiveStream channel.
