Alvaro Beltran and Daniel De La Rosa won their 2nd International Racquetball Tour (IRT) US Open Doubles Championship at the 2021 UnitedHealthcare US Open in Minneapolis, Minnesota Saturday by defeating Alejandro Landa and Samuel Murray in the final, 15-11, 15-11. Beltran and De La Rosa have been in the last four US Open finals and now have a 2-2 record. Landa and Murray were first time finalists.
It wasn't a wire to wire victory though, as Landa and Murray actually had big leads early in both games. They were up 6-1 in game one, but Beltran and De La Rosa tied them at 7-7, and pushed on to win 15-11.
In game two, Landa and Murray's lead was even greater: 9-2. But then Beltran and De La Rosa got 11 points without yielding serve. That wasn't a tide turning. That was a tsunami coming.
The end was odd, as the line judges overruled the referee who said a get by Murray was two bounces. The line judges saw as a good get. Then a couple rallies later Murray seemed to make a good shot to put his side back in the service box, but then the line judges overruled the referee to say that the shot was a skip.
That ended a competitive doubles final. But it confirms Beltran and De La Rosa as the premier men's doubles racquetball team.
