Erika Manilla continues to be the story of the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) at the 2021 UnitedHealthcare US Open in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as she upset another top ranked player Friday norming. This time Manilla came back to defeat 4th seed Gabriela Martinez, 6-15, 15-5, 11-4, and book her first semi-final place at the US Open.
But in that semi-final, she'll take on LPRT #1 Paola Longoria, who beat 8th seed Jessica Parrilla, 15-9, 15-2, in the quarters. That'll be a big task for Manilla, but she's been up to everything that's come her way so far.
Angelica Barrios will be another first time US Open semi-finalist, as she defeated Brenda Laime, 15-12, 15-6, in what was a battle of 21 year olds. In the semis, Barrios will take on 3rd seed Maria Jose Vargas, who needed a tie-breaker to get past Rhonda Rajsich, 15-7, 9-15, 11-4.
