The Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) plays their second of back to back events this weekend at the 29th Annual Glass Court LPRT Turkey Shoot in Lombard, Illinois. That it’s the second of back to back weekends and with the International Racquetball Federation (IRF)) World Championships looming in the near future may explain why the draw of 17 players is reduced from what we saw last weekend at the Arizona Open.
But Paola Longoria, the LPRT’s #1 player, LPRT #2 Maria Jose Vargas and #3 Alexandra Herrera will all be in Illinois, so there it’s not a weak field of players by any stretch. Also notable, Samantha Salas and Veronica Sotomayor will be there too, and neither were in Arizona.
Longoria looked dominant last weekend in Arizona, and it will be interesting to see if she can come back and do it again. We wouldn’t bet against that. But she could face Sotomayor in her first match. Sotomayor was a top 10 player, who returned to the tour at last month’s US Open, and was in good form. She would certainly provide a stronger than usual first match for Longoria.
Elsewhere in the draw, Brenda Laime is positioned where she could take out the 2nd seed in her second match, which she has done twice this season. But Laime is the 10th seed, so she will have to defeat 7th seed Jessica Parrilla before entertaining thoughts of upsetting the 2nd seed again, who is Maria Jose Vargas this time. Vargas will also have to beat 15th seed Adrienne Haynes before a possible meeting with Laime.
Based on previous tournaments, the LPRT matches will begin Friday with the Rounds of 32 and 16 with the quarterfinals Saturday morning, the semi-finals Saturday afternoon and the final on Sunday. Look for the action via the LPRT YouTube channel, as well as the LPRT Facebook page.
