Rodriguez highlights IRT qualifying at 2021 Arizona Open

Rodrigo Rodriguez is making some noise for a second consecutive International Racquetball Tour (IRT) event at the 2021 Arizona Open in Tempe, Arizona, where he’s through to the Round of 32. This is his 2nd Round of 32 appearance after he won two matches to get into the 32s at the US Open last month. Rodriguez was even more impressive Thursday, as he beat two veterans to get to Friday’s 32s. First, Rodriguez defeated former Pan American Champion Jose Diaz, 14-15, 15-9, 11-8. Then he beat Costa Rican veteran Felipe Camacho, 13-15, 15-4, 11-0. Rodriguez will play 14th seed Sebastian Franco in the Round of 32 Friday morning.

Anthony Martin is the other surprise from Thursday. He beat Daniel Bautista, 15-1, 15-10, first, and then he came back to defeat Roland Keller, 11-15, 15-7, 11-10. He’ll play 10th seed Mario Mercado in the 32s Friday morning.

The Round of 32 begins Friday at 10 and 11 AM with the Round of 16 at 6 and 7 PM Friday evening. The quarterfinals will be Saturday at noon and 1 PM. The semi-finals will be 5 and 6 PM Saturday and the final at 12:15 PM Sunday. All times are Mountain. Look for the action via the IRT YouTube channel., as well as its Facebook page.
