2018 LPRT Peachtree Open - Round of 16

Maria Vargas, formerly the #2 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT), knocked off the #1 seed Jessica Parrilla, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8, in the Round of 16 at the LPRT Peachtree Open in Lilburn, Georgia. Parrilla was the top seed for the first time in her career, as LPRT #1 Paola Longoria isn’t in Georgia this year due to a personal commitment. Vargas will play 8th seed Adriana Riveros in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Riveros defeated Kelany Bailey in the 16s, 11-7, 12-10, 11-9.

Lucia Gonzalez continues to make waves in Georgia, as she came from a game down twice to upset 5th seed Natalia Mendez, 6-11, 11-3, 9-11, 11-8, 11-5, in the Round of 16. The win puts her in the quarterfinals, where she’ll play 4th seed Alexandra Herrera, who defeated 13th seed Sheryl Lotts, 11-2, 9-11, 11-5, 11-5, in the 16s.

Third seed Frédérique Lambert had some trouble with 14th seed Gabriella Martinez early in their match, as they split the first two games. But in game three, Lambert stepped it up, and was up 9-0 before Martinez scored some points to make it respectable. Lambert did the same thing in game four, but Martinez had no response for that, so Lambert won in four games, 11-9, 13-15, 11-6, 11-1. She’ll face Cristina Amaya in the quarters, as Amaya beat Maria Renee Rodriguez, 12-10, 11-9, 11-1.

The final quarter will be veteran Rhonda Rajsich, the 2nd seed, versus 7th seed Carla Muñoz. In the Round of 16, Rajsich needed four games to get past young Hannah Shnurman, 11-3, 13-15, 11-3, 11-2, and Muñoz beat Daniela Molina, 11-7, 11-0, 11-5.

The Round of 16 continues Friday with the quarterfinals to be played Saturday morning at 10 AM and 11 AM. The semi-finals will follow Saturday afternoon at 4 PM and 5 PM.
