Vargas wins 2018 LPRT Peachtree Open

Maria Vargas won the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour (LPRT) Peachtree Open in Lilburn, Georgia, although likely in the way that she wanted to win it, because Frédérique Lambert had to return home early due to a family emergency. Thus, Vargas won the final by default. It’s Vargas’s 4th LPRT title, and first since March 2015, when she won the New Jersey Open. Coincidentally, Vargas also played Lambert in that final.

Vargas came in to the tournament ranked 30th on the LPRT, so her win will move her up the rankings considerably. She’ll likely be in the top 20 when the next round of rankings are done.

Lambert will also likely rise up from 4th the rankings, as she was only 38 points behind Rhonda Rajsich, who she beat in the semi-finals Saturday, and 75 points behind Jessica Parrilla, who lost in the Round of 16 to Vargas. Lambert may be the #2 player behind LPRT #1 Paola Longoria when the next rankings are revealed.
